Three months after California release, Cellfire reports redemption rates nearly 20 times greater than paper coupons
Santa Clara, CA - March 22, 2006 - Moonstorm's premiere mobile coupon application Cellfire reported coupon redemption rates in the teens and some in the twenty-percent range, announced Cellfire CEO and Cofounder Brent Dusing.
"We've surpassed our own expectations," says Dusing. "We're proving that 'breaking the paper cycle' can be a reality with redemption rates 20 times higher than paper coupons-which have a less than one percent redemption rate."
Application vs. SMS Text Messaging
Cellfire is the only mobile coupon service that exists in a cell phone application consumers download at cellfire.com or by texting in 22888. The application shows up as an icon on the consumer's phone and allows him or her to choose when, where and which offers they want to use as opposed to current SMS text messaging used by most marketers that can be intrusive to the consumer.
"When you look at trends in technology and those products that have succeeded-the iPod, Tivo and satellite radio-it's all about putting consumers in control," Dusing says. "The cell phone is the future of providing all types of information to consumers, including our instant coupons, since it is truly the only device people bring with them everywhere they go," he says.
T.G.I. Friday's joins growing list of retailers that give Cellfire 'four stars'
Cellfire has deals with huge name brands that have participated in the California release and are now signed on for next quarter's national launch.
"We just signed T.G.I. Friday's, a restaurant and quality brand with which we are proud to be associated," says Dusing, about the newest addition to Cellfire's list of retailers, which include Hollywood Video, SuperCuts, 1-800-Flowers.Com, and several regional pizza and coffee retailers in California, all who pay to be a part of this free application that offers consumers new coupons daily or weekly.
Cellfire coupons are for retailers within the cell phone users' geographic area. Consumers can check for new coupons when they are 'out and about' and simply show the cashier a code on their phone, which the cashier enters to complete the sale. Consumers also can use a "call-in" feature that allows them to click on a local offer, such as "$3 off large pizza" and the phone will dial the closest participating pizza location.
Mobile vs. Paper Coupons
Seventy five percent of American consumers use coupons, and retailers spend $7 billion annually just printing and distributing the offers. However, the paper aspect of coupons is becoming obsolete. This is supported by the fact that a mere 1 percent of the 250 billion coupons printed annually is redeemed at the retailer and that redemption percentage has been declining for years.
Cellfire offers the convenience of "instant" coupons that can't be lost, thrown out or forgotten, because the overwhelming majority of people (95 percent) do not leave home without their cell phones.
